Alison Sharman is a 2nd Dan black belt in Bushido Ryu, a style of Karate that incorporates Jujitsu, Judo and Thai Boxing. Alison has trained in Martial Arts since the age of seven.

In 1984 at the age of 17 Alison won her first national title at the English Open Cup. The following year she achieved a black belt and went on to win the British Championships in Crystal Palace, London. Alison has gained several national titles in the eighties and went on to represent England in the World Open Cup in Helsinki in 1988 and 1989 finishing in the semi finals and finals respectively.

In 1992 Alison became the British Police Karate Champion, a title which she held for 5 years prior to retiring from competition in 1998. During this time Alison regularly instructed both men and women in martial arts and went on to specialise in teaching both men and women at self defence incorporating many techniques from each of the arts and also qualifying as a Police Self Defence Instructor.

On a cold winters even Alison was pushing her daughter in a pram throught the dark streets of Halifax. Suddenly she was subjected to an attack from a man brandishing a large knife. Alison fearlessly fought off the attacker and the national press covered the full story, however this was only the beginning.

Alison suffered badly from night mares and the fears created from such a harrowing experience. To her credit she overcame this by choosing a profession within the Police Service and is currently a Detective Inspector.
